Final Remarks:
This assignment is designed to encourage you to think critically and independently about feminist art history. Please use the above resources as a guide and seek out additional scholarly materials to support your arguments.
The main goal is to deepen your understanding of how to weave the methodologies of influential artists into the narrative of your analysis of their feminist practice. By examining the works and practices of established artists, you can gain insights into how to position any artwork within the broader art historical context.
Tasks :
Research and Analysis:
Deeply research the artist you have chosen for your final paper. Similar to our study of Bruguera, explore the key themes, methodologies, and impacts of their art.
Analyze how these elements are reflected in their works and how they resonate with or challenge existing art narratives.
Integration into Your Art Practice:
Reflect on how the methodologies of your chosen artist can influence your own  art historical critical  writing.
Prepare to articulate this integration in your final paper, drawing clear lines between their methods and your practice.
Drafting Your Paper:
Begin drafting your paper by outlining the main sections: Introduction, Analysis of the Artist’s Work, Integration into Your Practice, and Conclusion.
Ensure each section transitions smoothly into the next, maintaining a cohesive narrative that clearly communicates your thesis.
Guidelines for Effective Writing:
Clarity and Coherence: Your paper should clearly express your ideas and how they are influenced by your chosen artist. Each paragraph should have a clear purpose that supports your overall argument.
Critical Engagement: Go beyond surface-level analysis. Critically engage with the artist’s work and its broader implications. How does it challenge or reinforce current artistic trends?
Personal Reflection: Your paper should include personal reflection on how studying the artist has impacted your view of your own art. This introspection can provide valuable insights into your development as an artist.
Supporting Resources:
Please revisit the lecture materials on Tania Bruguera, especially the TED Talk and Artist Lecture provided in the module. These can serve as excellent models for how to discuss an artist’s impact comprehensively.
Utilize our library’s resources for additional scholarly articles or books on your chosen artist and related artistic movements.

Title: “Visualizing Difference: Exploring Power Structures through Art and Identity”

Thinking about social categories of difference and the power structures that inform/impact them (past and present), you will need to select a concept (listed below) and contemporary visual artist (please, no musicians, writers, etc.) that engages with your thematic selection in their practice. After selecting both your theme and artist, you will need to select 2-3 artworks that you feel best exemplifies/contests/complicates your chosen concept.
A Substantial Creative Project (Art, Creative Writing, Performance, etc.): This will need to be accompanied by a 4-5 page (double-spaced) critical paper that relates the project back to the concept/artist of your choice (if you elect to go with this option, choosing an artist to inform the project alone will suffice).
Thematic Choices:
Sex/Gender Binaries
Emergence of “Normativity”
Leather, BDSM, and Power
Feminism, Separatism, and Alternative Communities
Materiality of the Body
Gendered Labor
Queer Politics and the Policing of “Deviant” Bodies/Sexuality
Cyberidentities (Sexual/Gendered)
Institutional Repression/Representation
Performativity, Drag, and Gender Identity
Intersectionality (Race/Class/Gender/Place/Sexuality)
Stereotypes and Cultural Representation/Visibility
Regardless of your choice, your final assignment on the visualization of difference will need to utilize and EXPAND ON the concept of your choice, discussing not only HOW it is exemplified in the context of the artist/work that you have selected, but also how it engages with the “cultural order” of difference.
you may elect to include reference photos if appropriate, however, if you are not specifically referencing any artworks, listing the artist that helped informed your project will suffice. BOTH options will require that you use at LEAST 3-4 academic/scholarly sources. Please note that you are more than welcome to use ANY of the articles/texts we’ve read in class or any other relevant scholarly peer-reviewed sources.

“Lot and His Daughters: A Visual Analysis of the School of Fontainebleau’s Iconic Painting”

Write a final draft of a Visual analysis paper on a painting called “Lot and His Daughters” created in 1550 by the School of Fontainebleau. I have already completed the first draft of the paper, I need help revising. I have attached and typed out the directions to write the final draft. Make sure to follow ALL directions please. No use of CHAT GPT or any AI software. Thank you. I have also attached the last draft of my paper that you will be revising.
Here is the feedback I received on my last paper. Can you please incorporate it into the revised version?: “This essay is basically strong, and has some good visual analysis. Your comparisons are also well-chosen. But right now your argument is still purely visual – you haven’t done the required research to add historical and art historical context. To improve the essay, do more research about the School of Fontainebleau and its art historical context – look up that term in the database Oxford Art Online and Smarthistory, for instance. Also look carefully at the guidelines for using footnotes – they aren’t for illustrations, but for information you find in the recommended sources. We look forward to seeing your final revised version”

“The Influence of Roman Diplomacy on Architecture and Art History: A Historical Analysis”

This is the final draft of a minimum 2000 word research paper. I’ve attached the annotated first draft— this draft was written with AI by a writer on here, which my professor is aware of. I need this to be ABSOLUTELY NOT written by AI, and to follow this provided outline with a grain of salt (use most sources, divert where needed etc.). Professor feedback should be incorporated!!! Architecture and art history is the focus, with historical effects and that of Roman Diplomacy eloquently tied in. Please take care with this, follow the rubric provided give thoughtful insights, and it will be run through a few plagiarism/AI checkers out of an abundance of caution.
