In other words, look beyond basic explanations or analysis. Effectively analyze media and demonstrate an understanding of historical, social, intellectual, and/or cultural contexts. In other words, your paper is informed by knowledge learned from the course and demonstrates awareness of social and cultural issues. Effectively utilize your sources for information and analysis. Required Sources: (5 minimum)
– a substantial piece of media Ali Wong is in. This could be any of the following, “Always Be My Maybe”, “Beef”, “Birds of Prey”, or any other recognizeable pieces of film or TV episodies Ali Wong appears in.
– at least two essays or chapters from Keywords for Asian American Studies. Keywords for Asian American Studies by Cathy J. Schlund-Vials, is attached below. I have already pre-identified a few chapters that would be good to incorporate, Chapter 28 “Gender” and Chapter 24 “Film”. These are not specifically required, but I need at least two separate chapters included in the paper.
– at least two scholarly peer-reviewed articles
Annotated Bibliography at the end of the essay, on a separate page. Should contain all sources used in the essay, listed in alphabetical order by author.
1. Write MLA works cited entries for all of the sources, and in alphabetical order by author.
2. Underneath each entry, write an annotation by summarizing the source, and explaining how the source contributes to the project. It would be useful to point out specific ideas, like what is used in the paper. Each annotation should be about one paragraph (5-10 sentences) approximately.
The thesis/main argument for this analytical research paper can be anything that focuses on a topic related to Asian American Studies, and specifically Ali Wong. She is influential in today’s generation, and has a multiracial background, which is something that can be worked into the paper. She can be compared to Anna May Wong, and she was also very influential and one of the first Asian American women to become famous in Film and TV.
