Title: Reflection on Annotated Bibliography and Research Process

This reflection assignment is connected with my annotated bibliography.
For your Reflection Discussion Forum, please include:
your research topic
your diagram of the research process (completed Week 7)
your creative element
any citations you need for your creative element
You do not need to directly and separately list out and answer your guiding questions or reflection answer if you feel they are clearly addressed in your creative element or illustration. If you would like to answer the questions directly you may do so.
Reflection question: What is the most important thing you’re taking away from this course, and what do you plan to use in your future research courses?
Guiding questions
If your topic was too broad (needed focus) or too narrow (needed to expand), what steps did you take to refine it?
What strategies did you use to find additional keywords on your topic? Which keywords worked best for your research topic? And, what terms did you have to change to find the most relevant results?
What role did books and long-form materials play in your research?
Why did you choose the final list of sources you included in your bibliography?
How did you evaluate the credibility of your sources? What did you find most difficult with evaluating these sources?
What gap(s) do you have in your collection of literature, what points of view have you not represented in your list of sources?
What was the easiest part of the research process? What was the hardest? Describe any problems you encountered.
What was the most useful thing you learned about conducting research? How would you explain this to a peer?

Title: Ownership and Access on the Internet

A. Internet Ownership?
10.3:
The internet is not really owned by anyone, and yet, it is owned by everyone! What do you think that means? If the internet is not really owned by anyone, does that mean everyone has the same access to information across the world? Why or why not? Do you think there are other issues to consider when thinking about internet management and use? What issues would those be?
or
B. Open Access and Creative Commons
10.9: Critical Thinking Open access as a concept sounds great! These are resources you can access freely online. The internet was created to support sharing information freely. But just because you can access a resource freely doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with that resource, right? There is copyright to consider. What can’t you do with a resource that you can access freely? It may help to think about YouTube videos. You can access those freely. Can you download them freely? Can you edit them? Should you be able to?

In your initial post, choose prompt A or prompt B. Clearly state which one you are responding to, then please share your ideas. I’d like it if you bring in support from resources you found online.

Comparing Two Databases: OneSearch and Criminal Justice Database For this assignment, I chose to compare OneSearch and Criminal Justice Database. 1) OneSearch is a comprehensive database that allows users to search for books, articles, and other

Compare two databases. You’ll be using OneSearch and Academic Search Complete, so for the discussion this week I’d like you to take a look at two different databases and compare them. Please choose two databases from the databases list: https://www.hancockcollege.edu/library/other-online-sources.phpLinks to an external site.
You may choose any database you like as long as it’s not OneSearch or Academic Search Complete. You may want to choose one general database and one database based on your major or a specialty database.
— My Major is Administration of Justice if you would like to use this for your information
In your initial post:
For each database you chose
1) Which database did you choose (name and the brief description from the library website)
2) Why did you choose it? (what made it interesting?)
3) Do a quick search for a topic of your choice (your research topic is allowed)
4) Describe your search results – what do you see, is it a mix of source types, is there anything interesting?
When replying to your peers:
1) Have you used either of these databases before? Do your classmates’ experiences align with your own?

Annotated Bibliography for Books on College Research Search Strategy: To find books or book chapters on college research, I used the OneSearch function on the library’s website. My keywords were “college research” and I applied the filter for books

Books are a great way to get in-depth coverage of a subject, a history of your topic, an overview of a particularly big topic, background information, and more. You don’t have to use the entire book, nor read it cover to cover for your annotated bibliography project. In fact, you’ve been asked to specifically find a book chapter. The Link for the class one search will be posted below and the book for this class will also be linked below if needed. I will also add files of the work that has been completed for this class on the subject that is being writen about.
For this week’s assignment:
use OneSearch (search box on the library’s website) to find two (2) books or book chapters
describe your search (your keywords, filters, and if you used any particular strategy in choosing your final two titles)
create an annotated bibliography entry for each of them
NOTE: If you are having trouble finding a book on your research topic, please let me know

Tertiary Sources: Wikipedia and AHC Library Encyclopedias I. Wikipedia “Climate Change.” (2021, April 28). In Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_change This Wikipedia article provided a

Researchers and Student-researchers often start with tertiary sources when considering research because they help direct them to more in-depth material, help you develop vocabulary and terms specific to the research to be examined, and generally help to contribute to background information. Most of the time, the tertiary sources you read do not make their way into your research paper’s list of references or bibliography because much of the information is general. However, if you do end up referencing/citing specific pieces of information you must include it in yoru references list. So we’re going to practice.
I. Wikipedia
Look up a Wikipedia article related to your research question cite it using the format below and include a brief annotation including a summary (2-3 sentances), what it helped you understand about your research question (2-3 sentances) and is the information in this article something that would be considered common knowledge or something you feel you should cite if you used in in a paper (2-3 sentances).
How to cite – Wikipedia entry references (apa.org)

Title: Developing Research Questions for the Topic of “The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health” What you know about your topic: – Social media is a prevalent aspect of modern society – Mental health is a growing concern, especially among young adults

Read through 7.1: Resesarch Questions
7.1: Research Questions – Humanities LibreTexts   . and apply the questions to your own research topic.
What you know about your topic: (3-4 bullet points)
What you don’t know about your topic: (3-4 bullet points)
Write 2-3 good research questions based on the “what you don’t know” bullets.
Test your topic by:
Describe it as if you’re starting your paper
Compare it to similar research you’ve seen or want to explore
Analyze it – why is it important or troublesome
Apply it -what could you do with the results
Argue for or against your topic
Try applying the too broad/too narrow/just write test to your questions.
Remember – research topics should not have yes/no answers, give you enough space to offer analysis, have enough space where you can gather 10 (or more) resources for your assignment.
Below are the files for the topic chosen for this assignment. That is the information I have so far on the topic. The link for book required for this class will be posted below incase it is needed.
