“Legal Implications for School Psychology and Counseling: A Report on the Impact of Retention Policies in Education”

Written reports are scheduled to provide the candidate with first hand experiences of the application of school law at the school site. Candidates are to choose a topic from the list and write a report on it. Cite relevant laws in the report. The report should be a maximum of four (4) typed pages.
Directions: Students select a topic and write a report based on research of relevant case law and implications for education practice.
1.     Identify legal issue
2.     Prevalence of the problem (provide incident rate)
3.     Discuss relevant case law and be sure to cite it in the correct format (ex: Brown v. Board of Education)
4.     Interview School administrator, school counselor, school psychologist, or educational attorney to obtain his/her perspective about the issue
5.     How the legal issue impacts the field of school psychology/counseling?
6.      Discuss your faith/values may impact your view of this particular legal issue.
7.      Bibliography. There is a minimum of 5 references that are based on research from the past 5 years.   See www.apu.edu/library for more information.
