According to the National Center for Victims of Crime (2012), victim impact statements provide victims an opportunity to express the impact the crime has had on their lives. These statements may be used by a judge in determining sentences and/or by parole boards when making determinations regarding parole approval. For this question you will discuss the nature and extent of victim impact statements, their purpose, use, and future implications.
