Term Paper Outline: Business Law and Real-Life Examples I. Introduction A. Explanation of term paper requirements B. Importance of choosing a real-life case or example C. Overview of acceptable law topics related to business

Please post your outline here if you would like to do the term paper. Check the syllabus for the more details about the term paper. Here is some information from the syllabus:
To be eligible [to write a term paper], a student must first submit an outline by Tuesday, May 28 (you can turn it in earlier!). That outline must be approximately 150 to 250 words long, with an indication of at least three sources (e.g., Internet sites, books, court cases, newspaper stories) you have found and may use. The outline is not graded, but we usually acknowledge its receipt and often also write to the submitting student with advice on how to approach his/her paper and/or with a request that he/she revise his/her outline. One approach – BUT NOT THE ONLY APPROACH – is have your paper arise from, relate to, delve deeper into, or otherwise concern a real case or actual example discussed in the LSB text, in the Barron’s book, or in one or more of the class-related YouTube videos. Generally, it would be much better to choose a case or example that was not discussed at great length (e.g., for more than one or two paragraphs), because that gives more opportunity for you to do your own research and develop your own insights.
This is not the only approach. Generally, any law topic that is business related (very broadly defined) is acceptable. Do not write about any subject that is more pertinent to another course than to a law course, about a matter where you are focusing on a case or an event from earlier than 2012, or about a criminal law matter not related to business.
PLEASE DO NOT WRITE focusing on OLD FAMOUS CASES – E.G., ROE v. WADE, BROWN v. BOARD OF EDUC.

Dissertation Guidelines and Key Sources for AI and GDPR Research

Please find below (1) dissertation guidelines, a reminder of the deadline, and an example of a good dissertation. You’ll also find (2) some notes from the session as well as key sources.
1 – Dissertation guidelines
Re criteria of a good dissertation, the dissertation must be a substantial scholarly work of a quality and length akin to a law review article (at least 8 pages), that follows the below guidance:
Re the Introduction
· Please identify the dissertation subject and include a hook that captures the reader’s interest and articulates the scope of the dissertation.
· Please describe the overall argument.
· Please clarify fundamental concepts to the extent necessary.
· Please summarizes the paper’s structure in a roadmap.
Re the content, the student’s dissertation is evaluated on the basis of the following elements:
· Issue Statement : please identify a problem and provide a constructive analysis of it.
· Legal Significance : please present a subject that is novel, not obvious, and useful to the audience.
· Persuasive Argument: The argument in support of the thesis is clear, logical, and sustained throughout the document. Please make connections to broader related issues, without tangents or distractions (e.g., comparative law for instance between the UAE and EU where relevant).
· Balance : please offer a proposition and give sufficient weight to opposing views and countervailing considerations, by: taking problems and turning them to your advantage; addressing implications such as resources and policy matters; acknowledging tradeoffs as necessary.
· Structure: please structure the parts of your dissertation in a logical order; coherently connect sections and use transitions to effect good flow throughout.
Re the conclusion,
· Please re-state the thesis; provide insightful observations and conclusions (for example, by discussing the future implications of the dissertation or by providing forward looking recommendations); avoid introducing new, confusing information or propositions.
Re the format, I would appreciate you to follow this structure:
· Word-formatted

TV shows. He sells his paintings on his website and at local art shows.
Recently, he painted a portrait of a character from a popular movie

against Bob? What factors should be considered in this analysis?
Does ABC Productions have a valid claim of copyright infringement
against Bob? What factors should be considered in this analysis?

Title: Addressing Structural Socio-Economic Inequality in Least Developed Countries through a Human Rights-Based Approach to Development: An Argument for Reinvigorating the Equality Norm

Full topic:Addressing deep socio-economic inequality in a HRBAD: a bilateral governmental donor seeks to address structural socio-economic inequality within a least developed country (90 % of the wealth is
held by 10 % of the people), and wonders whether and how it can help to address deep inequality in
the partner country (with a particular focus on the HRBAD principle of non-discrimination).
1. Group 5 argues that the equality norm needs reinvigoration to address structural socio-
economic inequality, and suggests how such reinvigoration could take place in the context of
a HRBAD.
In the written assignment you have to develop an argument in favour or against a certain approach to an HRBAD, based on the briefing that you have received (same topic and position as for roundtable).
The paper will take the format of an internal policy brief rather than an academic piece.
The policy brief is a document which outlines the rationale for choosing a particular policy alternative or course of action in a current policy debate. It is commonly produced in response to a request directly from a decision-maker or within an organisation that intends to advocate for the position detailed in the brief. … Nevertheless for any case, as any policy debate is a market-place of competing ideas, the purpose of the policy brief is to convince the target audience of the urgency of the current problem and the need to adopt the preferred alternative or course of action outlined and therefore, serve as an impetus for action.
Source: http://www.policy.hu/ipf/fel-pubs/samples/PolicyBrief-described.pdf
add an executive summary of between 300 and 500 words
After a short introduction of the topic, develop the argument that has been assigned to you. Decide which focus you want to take; it is impossible to engage with all arguments.
Grab and keep the attention of the decision-maker; framing is important (normative versus effectiveness/impact arguments: ‘it is the right thing to do’ versus ‘it works’)
The argumentative analysis must engage with the key elements mentioned above (human rights principles; human rights law; power, change and context analysis; human rights law and global justice).
Stick to the position assigned to you (in favour or against), and be consistent in your arguments. Structure your text clearly.
Do not copy paste text from websites, articles, policy documents. Your submission is automatically submitted to a plagiarism check. Severe penalties for plagiarism apply.
Length: minimum 1500 words, maximum 2500 words (exclusive of cover page, executive summary and bibliography)
References: use APA (name, date, page number) in the text, and add a short bibliography;the bibliography is not included in the word count
Substantive orientation
attention must be paid to:
human rights principles
human rights law as it is and as it ought to be
aspects of power, change and context analysis
a combination of legal technical human rights analysis with global justice considerations
Keep the target audience (as mentioned in the themes section) in mind.

“Exploring Legal Issues in Business Financing and Competition: A Case Study Analysis of the Bills of Exchange Act 1949 and Competition Act 2010”

Question
Business Financing
Michael is a contractor who typically receives payment for his work via bank transfer. For his latest January 2024 project, the client accidentally issued a cheque instead. Upon inspection, Michael noticed the date written on the cheque was 1 June 2024 and contained several spelling mistakes in the company name. Use Bills of Exchange Act 1949 and decisions of previous cases to explain to Michael the validity of the cheque.
Business Competition
ChargeCo and PowerVolt are the two major companies that dominate the EV market. Both offer similar fast-charging stations and subscription plans for access. They operated individually and are not connected to each other.
In November 2023, both ChargeCo and PowerVolt simultaneously announced identical price increases for their subscriptions and in January 2024, they entered into an agreement on their market share. In the agreement,  ChargeCo focuses on urban areas whereas and PowerVolt concentrates on rural locations, avoiding direct competition between one another.
Use Competition Act 2010 and decision of previous cases (from www.mycc.gov.my)  to explain whether this conduct amounts to the prohibitions by Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC). Also explain the remedial action that MyCC can take if these conducts are found to be in breach of the Act.
