“Exploring Global Moral Responsibility and Corporate Social Responsibility through a Research Project Experience” APA Style: A Comprehensive Guide to Formatting and Citing Sources

You are to write an essay explaining how your research project experience illustrates six of the key topics from this class listed in instruction #2.
a. You MUST write on the three checked topics.
b. The other three topics you write on are your choice.
2. Key points to be covered
a. ✓Global Moral Responsibility as described in Lecture 1a
b. The definition of morality given in Lecture 1b
c. The Tone at the Top
d. Theoretical Approaches to Ethics
e. An Ethical Organizational Culture
f. ✓Corporate Social Responsibility and the Stakeholder Model
g. Organization-Specific Moral Principles
h. ✓Deliberation Process for Global Ethics given in Video Lecture 5b
(NOTE: Ignore “Unified Strategy for Home/Host Conflicts”)
3. YOUR ESSAY MUST DO TWO THINGS WITH EACH TOPIC:
a. YOU MUST WRITE A 1-2 PARAGRAPH EXPLANATION OF THE TOPIC AS
PRESENTED IN COURSE MATERIALS.
b. YOU MUST MAKE A CLEAR AND SPECIFIC APPLICATION OF THE TOPIC
TO YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT.
DO NOT SIMPLY TALK ABOUT THE TOPIC ITSELF.
c. IF YOU IGNORE THIS INSTRUCTION YOUR GRADE WILL SUFFER
TREMENDOUSLY.
4. READ INSTRUCTION #3 AGAIN.
5. Rules and guidelines for your essay:
a. Your essay is not limited to the information and analysis you presented in your final
report. Anything you studied or considered during your research and preparation can be used.
b. For the material, examples, processes etc. you use from your research (I will call these “research items”), you must show explicitly how it qualifies as an illustration of the key topic in question. This means identifying the essential characteristics of the key topic and showing how your research item displays those characteristics.
c. You must use material from the textbook and lecture videos substantially in your essay. It is not necessary to have material from both in every key topic discussion, but you must use at least one in each and your overall essay must demonstrate a good and broad working knowledge of the information from both sources.
d. For parenthetical citations to these sources, use (text, p. XXX) for the textbook and
(Lecture Xy – e.g. 3b) for the video lectures. This is all the documentation that is required.
e. NOTE: It is not necessary to cite the sources you used in your presentation, even if you present material from them. I am assuming the sources are well documented in your final report.
6. Formatting issues
a. Use Times New Roman 12 point font. Any other font will result in a 10 point reduction in your essay grade.
b. Do not use a title page, abstract, or references page.
c. Follow the instructions for in text citations given above in instruction 5d.
d. Do not write an introduction or conclusion.
e. Give your paper a title, centered on the top of the first page, and center your name two lines below. Nothing else. Then get right into your essay.
i. Neither the title nor your name should be bold or italics or underlined.
ii. Just plain Times New Roman 12 point font.
f. Use clear, unambiguous section headings for each of the six issues you address (e.g., Global Moral Responsibility).
i. These section headings are to be centered, bold type.
ii. Subheadings are allowed but not required. They should be left justified, bold type.
g. Your essay must be in Word or RTF format (.doc, .docx, .rtf). Virtually all major word processing systems can save documents in at least one of these formats.
i. PDF format is strictly prohibited.
ii. If you submit your document in any format other than those listed above you will
receive a zero for the assignment. There will be no exceptions and no appeal.
h. This is a formal writing assignment. Clarity, grammar, spelling, and proofreading will all be considered in the grading.
i. All standard APA formatting rules must be followed: running header, page numbers,
proper margins and spacing, proper section headings, paragraph indention, etc. For in text citations, see 5d above.
i. Be sure to utilize the Online Writing Laboratory (OWL) from Purdue University.
i. It has an excellent section on APA style.
ii. Reread those details and utilize the site, both to learn the formatting and to double
check what you think you know.
iii. The home page for the APA section is
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/
j. Also be sure to download the document “A Very Correct APA Paper Style Paper” in the Week Seven Module (right below download for these instructions).
i. This excellent document was prepared by the Brenau Trustee Library staff and is
a great help for APA formatting.
ii. But remember: no title page, no abstract, no reference list.
7.  The essay must be 2000-3000 words long.
a. MS Word gives you a running word count in the bottom left hand corner right next to the page number.
b. Times New Roman 12 point font with 1 inch margins all around (APA standards)
produces approximately 300 words per page.
c. Slight variations on both ends will be tolerated. E.g., if you’ve finished and your total is 1982 or 3031 words, don’t sweat it. But don’t try to push the envelope either way!
d. My guess is that most of you will have more trouble keeping this under 3000 words
rather than getting it up to 2000 words. You must boil your answers down to essentials.
No unnecessary words, no tangents, no irrelevant or non-essential material at all.
