Instructions
Disability Awareness Paper
For this assignment, students will write a 5-8 page paper (topic and reference page not included) on their understanding of disability. The purpose of this paper is twofold: 1) articulate their perspective of (i.e., personal attitude towards) disability and 2) demonstrate an understanding of the psychological and social impact of a disability. Thus, students are encouraged to personalize their understanding of the impact of disability in one’s life.
Specifically, students are asked to 1) discuss personal attitudes towards disability and 2) select a disability and discuss the psychosocial aspects of the disability by taking into account culture, religion, upbringing, family dynamics, the onset of disability, etc.
Students are also required to use in-text citations to support opinions and statements throughout the paper. This paper should follow APA formatting. An abstract is not required for this paper, and will not count towards the total page count. Additionally, the title page and reference page(s) will not count towards the total page count for this assignment. Refer to the rubric for more information.
