In your textbook, you reviewed what impact more current history has had on human services. Current events and news stories can shed a lot of light on the trends impacting human services agencies. Locate two different newspaper or journal articles on the same issue, published within the last year. Follow these steps:

Fill in the Publication Date fields to limit your search to articles published within the last year.
Post a summary of the issue and information from both articles that best describe the issue. Explain how the issue impacts the work of human services agencies.

Visit some websites that advertise jobs (e.g., http://www.indeed.com/, http://www.simplyhired.com/, http://www.monster.com/) and search for positions that require a human services degree. Describe three different positions that you find. List the name of each position, the name of the agency, and three sentences about the responsibilities of the position.
This will be your selected agency for the final project. For the final assessment, you will select an agency in which you would like to be employed. You will research the types of services this agency offers by looking at its website, visiting the agency (if possible), emailing or interviewing someone who works at the agency, and, if possible, talking to a client who receives services from that agency. Once you have gathered the information for this project, you will explain why you selected this particular agency instead of others, write about how history and current trends have influenced this agency, what theories, values, and ethical standards you would apply if you worked at the agency and how your personal values might be challenged, what your role in the helping process might be, and what qualifications you would need to apply for a job at that agency.

Visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ website, specifically the pages on Social and Human Service Assistants and Community and Social Service Occupations. Also visit the What Is Human Services? page of the National Organization for Human Services. In a journal posting, share what type of agency you might be interested in working for and what type of human services network (e.g., community resources) you would need to familiarize yourself with in order to address the needs of your clients. How would you develop this network? For example, if you wanted to work in a Head Start program for children ages 3–4, parents would probably ask you for resources that cover medical care, food, housing, and clothing.
