Title: “Exploring Themes and Connections in [Book Title]: A Review”

lPlease write a 3-5 page review of your book choice, including the following components (see rubric attached to this assignment for guidance on grading)
1. Summary (2 paragraphs maximum!)
Provide a brief overview of the book (imagine you are writing a blurb for the back of the book or a note to a friend about the book). What is the central theme of the book? What issue(s) or problem is the author(s) trying to address? Where does the author draw their authority on the subject? How do you evaluate the author’s credibility on the subject (i.e. what is their background on this topic? What else have they written, for example)?
Note: Do not write a “summary/book report” of your book—I have read them all, so you can assume I am familiar with the people, events, and other basic details!
2. Making connections between the book and this class (1-2 pages):
Discuss three (3) specific connections between the book’s themes and a reading, film/media, current event, or any other course material. Each example should be described in a well-developed paragraph.
3. Discussion (1-2 pages):
Answer the following:
What did the author do particularly well in addressing the issue? AND answer either #2 or #3:
What was missing from the story? What perspective did you want/need to understand that the author did not provide and why? OR
What argument/assumption/perspective did you not agree with/buy into and why?
