“Exploring Issues and Trends in the DeafBlind Community: A Research Paper”

RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES
Your topic needs to be related to issues and trends in the DeafBlind Community
(language, community, culture, history, education, interpreting, bilingualism).
Below is a list of research paper topics to give you an idea. You may create your
own topic. Professor approval is required.
The research paper should consist of controversial issues, not limited to facts
and figures. Interviews, videotape documentaries, books, novels, articles (from
or outside of class), etc. may be used to support your term paper. Few examples
are below:
1. American Association of the DeafBlind
2. Helen Keller National Center; Tactile Communications (training centers)
3. DeafBlind Camps
4. PLI – Protactile Language Interpreting
5. Adaptive Technology Devices and Programs
6. Biography of a DeafBlind person
7. Book review on a book by a DeafBlind author
8. Other topics, contact professor for pre-approval
Your research paper should include these five aspects;
1. Definition and description of your topic
2. Application to the DeafBlind Community
3. Application to you; what was noteworthy?
4. How topic impacts DeafBlind individuals
5. How this knowledge is useful for SSP/CN and interpreters
If you are doing a book review, use these writing guidelines:
1. Summary and description of the book content
2. Application to the DeafBlind Community
3. Application to you; what was noteworthy?
4. How the book impacts DeafBlind individuals
5. How this book is useful for SSP/CN and interpreters
A rubric is available on myCourses that will be used to grade your research
paper.
The research paper should be double-spaced and be four to five pages long, and
the font must be in Arial or Helvetica with the font size of 12. Papers should be
saved as Microsoft Word or PDF. Each paper will need to be submitted on
myCourses in its respective folder on the due date and time indicated on the
course schedule.
According to RIT Academic Honesty Policy, the act of plagiarism will not be
tolerated. The instructor has the full right to assign the paper an “F” automatically.
