Title: The Historical Insight of “Jim Crow South” in Kira-Kira: A Reflection on Japanese American Labor and Discrimination

After reading the article titled, “Migrating to the “Broiler Belt”: Japanese American Labor and the Jim Crow South in Cynthia
Kadohata’s Kira-Kira,” (link above and in Week Eight module) consider the historical insight provided about the setting of “Jim Crow South.”  Choose one instance in Kira Kira where we can see a direct link to actual history.  Be sure to directly quote the literature and fully discuss this link along with Kadohata’s purpose in detailing this part of history.  What important theme is she furthering in this powerful children’s book?  Be sure to state the theme in a complete sentence and distinguish between an implicit and explicit theme.
