“BI Dashboard Prototype for XYZ Organization”

Objectives
At the completion of this unit, the HI graduate student will be able to
Apply BI concepts gained from the HCBI Course
Apply design best practice techniques
Browse “raw” data and make data manipulations
Apply formulas and other functions
Create a prototype business intelligence solution
Assignment
Your BI solution and recommendation has been accepted. The Board of Directors would like to see a dashboard prototype created in Microsoft Excel to provide their BI team for duplication in the new system. Your firm, along with a few others, will be submitting a proof of concept to the CIO. Based off this submission, the organization will select a consulting firm for phase II (implementation) of the project.
Create a prototype dashboard using Microsoft Excel. You are open to your own interpretation, but below are minimum guidelines that you must adhere to. In the resources folder, you will find some sample data and below is the link for the template file you will use for the submission. You do not have to use all the sample data. Download the files, and select which are appropriate for you. The data is obtained from data.gov (open use) and is the only source of data for this project. The files may need some data manipulation on your part, but all of them should have usable data within them. You are free to add data to the existing data files, but ensure you include that dataset as a tab in the final deliverable. The limitation on if you add data is that it must be integrated with one of the existing data files. No brand new data sources are accepted. You must work with only the files posted in the resource link below. You may pose questions in the “Questions for the Instructor” forum for clarification on data elements and/or any project related items. Below is the minimum required.
Assumptions/Minimum Requirements:
The dashboard must at least contain four charts and one summarized table (tabular data)
The dashboard must be on one page (Excel tab) only
The CIO is looking for trends in terms of growth/loss financials, providers specific information, clinical outcomes, etc. in the dashboard (where applicable)
The CIO would also like one chart dedicated to contain advanced statistics. Preferably, a frequency distribution chart on one of the subject matters (your choice), on one data element (your choice). However, this can get much more advanced based on your comfort level of statistics (regression, etc.) and the dataset
The CIO is looking for a brief introduction on the data you included in the dashboard and an overall summary of the dashboard (enter summary in Cover tab)
The CIO is also looking for a KPI recommendation from you based on what you are seeing in the data. What would you set as a KPI and why?  (enter in Cover tab)
The CIO wants a consistent, formatted, and a visually appealing dashboard
The CIO understands some of the subject matter may not be related, but for this proof of concept it does not have to be
Setting the print areas is optional but not necessary
Ensure the dashboard is linked. No images of charts/tables. This should be an actual chart/table created by you. If you need to manipulate the existing dataset you may. You must include that manipulated data set in the final submission and label the tab accordingly. Take a copy of the data and place it in a new tab where you are free to edit/omit etc.
You may get creative in your approach (logos, drop-downs, pivot tables etc.) and provide as advanced of a dashboard as you would like
Use this file as the template for submission  Unit 8 Assignment.xlsx
1. Please upload your dashboard (.xlsx) file to the file submission area below. Ensure you attach the file. You have multiple attempts, if you are not sure it went through, please send me an email before the due date.

“Transforming Business Intelligence: A Comprehensive Plan for the Future of Healthcare Analytics” Title: Business Intelligence Solution Recommendation for Organization X Memo: To: Leadership Team of Organization X From: BI Team Date: [Date] Subject: Business Intelligence Solution Recommendation for Organization X We, the Business Intelligence (BI) team

Unit 7: Student Papers & Peer Review Discussion
Unit 7: Student Papers & Peer Review Discussion
Dates
Please refer to the course calendar for all due dates.
Objectives
At the completion of this unit, the HI graduate student will be able to
Explore Business Intelligence concepts through the integrations of theory and practice in order to identify potential areas of expertise.
Apply students’ skills in business intelligence literacy.
Demonstrate students’ skills in organizing, communicating, and presentation information
Create knowledge content for students’ knowledge portfolios
Assignment
You currently work as an information technology leader for a 180-bed hospital system located in Chicago, IL. The organization has four hospitals around the Chicagoland area and one central business office.
The organization is looking to acquire a new hospital system by the end of the year. Discussion revolving around finances and integration planning have been underway and have been in evaluation stages for several years. You have been brought in as a healthcare business intelligence consultant for the parent organization.
The current analytic infrastructure does not meet the needs of executive leadership and cannot support the organization moving forward. Currently, most of the analytic work and product leverages data from the data warehouse and is addressed manually or in an “ad-hoc” fashion. The business intelligence team supports all four hospitals, all data needs,  and requirements come through the project management office. Unfortunately, there is no centralized reporting area. In addition, many analysts save most of their work product on their desktops. Furthermore, you have been made aware that some of the business intelligence team members have been inconsistent when reporting numbers to leadership. The current manager in place was recently promoted from a Sr. Analyst position. Upon the promotion, the team experienced nearly 40% turnover in the following six months.  Transition and knowledge transfer was poorly executed. You’ve conducted an interview with the manager and also have learned that many previous projects are slipping delivery dates due to the lack of data/reporting infrastructure and conflicting priorities from various VPs.
The current analytic offerings are basic at best. You have seen some vague KPIs in a few of the reports presented to you by the team and have seen inconsistency in the way data has been presented visually. You also have noted frustration from VPs that the current data, to their current understanding, only scratches the surface of what they really need. Some of the metrics that they have fails to trend, forecast, and benchmark.
The pending acquisition also poses a new, more pressing issue for the organization. The other hospital system does not have a business intelligence team or solution in place. They do have disparate systems (including an EMR) and a centralized data warehouse. Most of their analytic needs are produced by one individual.
Leadership has come to you for expert opinion and recommendation. They want fast to market, excellent visualization and super fast response times. In addition, self-service is very important including faster load times for dashboard with 20+ data sources and highly cross-functional data.
Compose a memo to the CIO. The CIO is seeking expert opinion on what to do with the current “mess” with the Business Intelligence team and pending impacts for the acquisition. Using the resources folder, select a business intelligence tool/solution and provide the pros/cons of a selection that you would endorse and be used as the enterprise-wide BI solution for the entire organization (research is needed from your point). In addition, provide leadership with a business intelligence gameplan. What should be done with the current “state of the union”? Once the memo is completed, create a PowerPoint slide deck that would be presented at the next board of directors meeting. Ensure you highlight the business intelligence solution recommendation and the pros/cons of purchasing such a solution for the organization.
Assumptions:
There are 10 members of the BI team (+1 from the other hospital system)
Initial budget for your recommendation and plan is $1M
Costs associated with data integration with both systems are sunk and do not affect the budget
Leadership is seeking dashboards, scorecards, and other cutting edge BI outputs
Various VPs have a backlog of tasks and want to start to get at the data themselves
The organization is starting to lose trust with BI department
The board of directors are not technical, but want to understand the pros/cons of your recommendation
750 words is a minimum, you may get creative in your approach and analyze other aspects of the BI department for improvement
1. Please upload your memo to your discussion group for discussion.
2. Attach the PowerPoint deck to the submission. Ensure they are submitted together in one post.
3. For Unit 7 group discussion, each student has been assigned to peer review one of her/his group colleague’s recommendation memo and PowerPoint for constructive critical commentary.
