“Transforming the Power Industry: An Analysis of AES Corp’s Global Strategy and Implementation under CEO Gluski”

Long Case Assignment
All students will be asked to write up and submit the same case. This will be graded and will also be used by the School to assess whether students (collectively) are reaching the appropriate level of achievement in major program goals. The maximum word size of the analysis and answers should be 3,000 words excluding identification, footnotes, and exhibits. Exhibits should be added to show analysis and provide key pieces of information but should not be used to augment to word count. This will be graded using a rubric that will be provided with the Assignment. Note that excellent answers tend to separate themselves out from good answers through the insights they provide, the level of detail in the analysis, and the strength of the conclusions reached, so please justify your answers within the space constraints.
The assignment MUST be turned in on time. Plan ahead so last minute emergencies do not happen. This is a STRATEGY course after all!
Note the due date to make sure people do not leave it too late.

2. Please use the 4 OUTER LEVELS (Supranational, National, Cluster, Industry) from our 5 Level Framework to assess and explain the average profitability of the industry that you have defined in Question 1. Please make some comparisons to other industries we have seen in cases during the course.
3. Please use the Firm Level Drivers from our 5 Level Framework to outline the strategy that AES has been using under CEO Gluski. What have been the major moves? What have been some of the detailed tactics? Please map the important components of the strategy to the 4 OUTER LEVEL components that they address.
4. How successful has the implementation of the stated strategy been? Please be detailed.
5. Please evaluate AES’ recent approach towards shareholders and customers. What have they done right? What might you question?

7. What lessons should we take away from an analysis of AES’s overall strategy and its implementation?
YOU HAVE JUST UNDER TWO WEEKS TO DO THIS ASSIGNMENT. THERE WILL BE NO EXTENSIONS, EXCEPT FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCY, AS WE NEED TO DISCUSS THE CASE IN CLASS. PLAN IN ADVANCE AND DO IT EARLY. FAILURE TO PLAN IN ADVANCE WILL BE A SIGN OF LACK OF STRATEGIC THINKING.
For purposes of the Rubric Q1, 2, 3 will be taken as the framing and analysis portions of the rubric. Q4, 5, 6, 7 will be taken as the “recommendations” really strategy evaluation portion. 这个能写吗
