Title: “Coach’s Observations and Tips for Success: 10 Rules/Pearls of Wisdom” 1. “Communication is Key” Effective communication is essential for a successful coaching experience. This includes clear and concise instructions, positive reinforcement, and

Each author summarizes them with “keys” to coaching, rules of coaching, Pearls of Wisdom and short bullet points. Here are six “Observations” that I’ve developed over the years.
Rules/Pearls of Wisdom
Referees are out to ruin your day… Deal with it!
Get your bench players into the game early. Don’t wait until late in the game when the outcome is on the line and the tendency will be to not play them.
It’s not about the coach; it’s about the players.
Keep post-game comments to a minimum. Nothing beneficial comes from long monologues. No one is really listening anyway and everyone wants to get home.
Play, referee, and coach games that have a clock. You want to have a life and be able to plan around your sport.
Parents care a lot more about winning than their child does. Parents have gone from being “Helicopters” to being “Velcro.”
Always take the wind in the first half of a game. If you wait until the 2nd half…the wind always disappears.
The bus picking your team up is always late after a loss, especially if it is raining.
The weakest players has the most obnoxious parents.
Finding a great “team mom or team dad” is almost as important as having a great assistant.
Develop your own 10 “Rules/Pearls of Wisdom”. First, list these out and then explain and clarify each in a brief paragraph or two each. Have fun with these!!! This is NOT your Philosophy but rather observations and hints to help you coach better. This assignment should be at least two pages in length and include at least one reference from either the text or an outside library source that supports your “Rules/Pearls of Wisdom”.

Title: Evaluating the Validity of an Op-ed Article about Sports

Choose an Op-ed article about sports.
The 1 source is the Op-ed.
Most national news sources with have a tab that takes you to their “Opinion”, “Editorial,” or “Op-ed” pages. Your essay should be 4 to 6 pages in length, and should focus on summarizing the author’s position and critiquing its validity, not arguing about the issue, though you may want to use some of the ideas in the checklist “Evaluating Arguments” as you critique whether the op-ed is valid. You should follow MLA guidelines for both citations and formatting: https:// owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/ mla_formatting_and_style_guide/index.html
