Examining the Validity of Defenses in Criminal Actions

What is your impression of defenses to criminal activity? Do you believe most defenses posed in criminal actions are valid, or are they overused obstacles to the execution of justice? Explain your position. Please discuss an example of a case where a defendant used an unusual or novel defense. In preparation for our Unit 5 DQ, be sure to read Chapter 8, Factual and Statutory Defenses and choose one of the defenses discussed in the chapter and explain it in detail, providing an example of how it would apply in a real case. Finally, discuss whether the defense you have chosen is a valid defense that should be weighed by the jury or is it not something worthy of consideration? Be sure to back up your answer with reliable sources. I have attached Chapter 8 and the cover page for the reference.
