“Reflecting on Disability Culture: Personal Growth and Global Perspectives”

For your final (“post-course”) reflection paper on Disability Culture (RHS100) you will write 1000-2000 thoughtful words following this format:
Take some time to think back over the semester
(Please number your responses to align with the questions)
1) Identify and discuss 3-4 topics from among all twelve modules we covered that most impacted your worldview.  As you reflect back, what did you learn that is relevant to your life and is likely to stay with you beyond this class? Explain and fully develop your response using new insights you had since you first learned the material.
2) Review your pre-course reflection paper and discuss how, if at all, your perspective on disability culture has changed since you wrote it. Use specific examples from your first paper.
3) We covered several subjects that relate to people with disabilities, but also to people without disabilities: what defines disability; features of culture; your personal cultural identity; Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model; microaggressions; intersectionality; understanding DSM-5 diagnoses; bullying; equal employment opportunities; infantilization; parentification. Choose one of these and discuss how your social awareness was affected by the associated content and class discussion.
4a) In regard to the country and disability your group researched, what finding do you consider the most important, and why?
4b) Of the other culture presentations you heard beyond your own, select two items you learned from two different countries that made the greatest impressions on you. From which countries did the information originate and what does it mean to you?
Your paper grade will be based on:
application of new, thoughtful, critical reflection to all question items (fully developed ideas and introspection)
address separate content to answer each question (ex: if you discuss Bronfenbrenner for Question #3, do not also cover that model in #1)
demonstration of learning/insight regarding disability culture in the US and globally
meeting or exceeding minimum word requirement
investment in your learning
quality of writing entirely in your own words (clarity of thought, organization, grammar)
as always, any identified AI will result in 0 points for this assignment
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY (2 possible points):
Thoughtfully identify one feature from our class that you found the least helpful to understanding your experience with disability culture, and one feature you found the most helpful. Careless responses will not receive extra credit.
