Characterize this person. What made them “tick”? Include some information about the person’s background and biography, but not just for a “book report” style. Explain how their background made them the person and political figure that they were. The A-level paper will have a lot of “cause and effect.”
What impact did this person have on Louisiana? Explain and relate their career, but again, not just for recitation as in a book report. Use their life and career to explain their impact. Did this person’s life and career have a positive impact on the state of Louisiana or a negative one? Analyze and explain.
This is a college-level essay, not a middle-school book report. I am not asking you to dig for one and only one “right” answer. One student’s conclusion may be different from another student’s. I am expecting you to make an argument, use evidence and research to support your arguments and findings, and come to a solid conclusion.
The assignment is purposely general. I want YOUR scholarly voice to be heard. I want YOU to be the scholar and historian.
MECHANICS: No shorter than eight full pages. No longer than ten full pages. Typed and double-spaced. 12-point times New Roman font. Footnotes and Bibliography in Chicago Manual of style. At least tensources—scholarly articles, books, etc. FOUR of these sources must be a book and TWO must be a primary source.
