Title: The Scientific Method and Ethical Ramifications in Current HIV Research

Journal 3
The student will compose a brief essay identifying the parts of the scientific method (DSL 100.1) including future research directions in current published research. This journal will have added focus on the ethical ramifications of the research (DSL 100.5). The scientific method must be clearly identified, discussed and, supported with evidence from the provided source; additional reliable sources may be referred to as a needed or required.  Failure to include necessary elements / follow specified instructions as described below will result in 10% reduction in grade for each item missed.

The journal includes the following processes and requirements:
Introduction: Start with an engaging attention getter, identifying the observation/problem addressed by the research; Write a valid hypothesis statement which is addressed by the research in the article;
Methods: Explain how the research was performed, what data was measured, where did it come from, what is included and what is not included, what are the units of measurement, what is the time frame / geographical location / scope of the data, etc.  Include all relevant details for someone to be able to replicate the research.
Results: Explain what the research produced.  Use at least one figure or graph from the article and explain it clearly.
Discussion / Future research: Explain what patterns you noticed in the data (sometimes this can also go in “Results”), and what ideas you have for how this research can be improved, or expanded upon in the future. Using creativity, find future research directions.  Must consider the ethical implications of the research.
Conclusion: Summarize the research and tie back to the Hypothesis in order to say whether the Hypothesis was supported or disproven.
In addition, keep the following in mind:
Start with an engaging attention getter, identifying the observation/problem addressed by the research;
Use indirect quotes, examples, and evidence to support all points.  No direct quotations, you must paraphrase;
Properly organize information within and between paragraphs;
Format layout, citations, and references in correct APA style;
800-1,000 words in length, font size 12, double spaced.
