Years ago, anybody who made that claim was seen as mentally unstable, paranoid or a lunatic. As we continue to expand and innovate artificial intelligence everyday, the idea seems less and less far fetched, not just some crazy idea. Researchers agree that AI can be beneficial for humans while theorists claim it’ll be the destruction of us. With the recent uprising of artificial intelligence, it leads us to one question that will be debated for many years to come, is A.I. beneficial or detrimental for society?
What is Artificial intelligence? IBM, one of the world’s leading technology companies, defines it as “technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities”. To simplify it, AI is a type of software that allows computers and other technology to do certain tasks without involving humans. It was first created by Geoffrey Henton Today we see AI being used everywhere. In chatbots, self driving cars, supply chain systems and even in movies and television to give a few examples. We can use AI on the internet to answer any question we ask it. It is used to help map roads on GPS systems and detect any foreign objects in the sky for military use. Forbes estimates the industry generated 86.9 billion dollars in 2022 with the number expected to skyrocket to 407 billion dollars by 2027. With the rapid increase of its worth, AI has proved itself valuable and in hot demand.
