Breaking Free from the Comfort Zone: How Race and Ethnic Groups Course Has Challenged My Preconceived Thoughts and Beliefs 1) Growing up in a predominantly white, middle-class suburb, I was surrounded by people who looked and lived like

As you think about that information, connect that with the content of this course, Race and Ethnic Groups, and respond to the following questions. Remember also the different TED Talk programs you watched as well – “Can Prejudice Ever Be A Good Thing?”, “Color Brave or Color Blind?”, and the others.  Those presentations had some good insights and thought provoking ideas that serve to challenge our preconceived thoughts and beliefs.
1)  What were some of the area in life that may have kept you in your comfort zone, and from interacting with groups different from your own? This could be family beliefs, friends, church, social class, and others.  Have you had to “break free” from any of those ways of thinking, of acting, or think differently about what you were taught, or what you always thought was real?  Discuss specific ways this has occurred in your own life.
2)  Using the concepts we have discussed throughout the course, including the implicit bias assessment, relate that content to real-life circumstances, thinking critically about the impact this information has had on your personal and professional development.  Has this course affected the way you view, interact with, or talk to others?  Be specific. You must incorporate terms and concepts from the text, videos, and other assignments.   Bold or highlight those terms.
I HAVE ATTACHED SOME OF THE WORK FROM THIS SEMESTER TO UTILIZE ALONG WITH SOME TERMS THAT COULD BE INCORPORATED.
