Title: The Evolution of Western Thought: From Reformation to Modernity

G.K. Chesterton’s lamp post story in his book “Heretics” spoke of a moral, philosophical, and political revolution in the West.  The old Christian worldview gave way to a modernist view that promised enlightenment and progress.   Write a reflection paper about this change from the Reformation (Luther) to the modern world (20th century).  What good has come from this ‘progress’?   What have we in the West lost since the Reformation?  Using class lectures, discussions, and our readings provide your thoughts and reflections.
Should be a minimum 5 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, standard 1-inch margins.
Should reference  Treatise on Christian Liberty by Martin Luther.
Should reference Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes.
Should reference The Gay Science by Friedrich Nietzche.
Should reference Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr.
Make a clear and interesting claim. This is your thesis statement and should appear in your introductory paragraph.
The rest of the paper should provide support for your claim. You can use outside research or simply compare what other readings have said.
If you make a controversial claim, support it (using outside research, clear argumentation, etc.)
Write the essay like an essay: An introductory paragraph in which the thesis is stated clearly, a body of paragraphs (not a wall of text) supporting the thesis, and a concluding paragraph summarizing the argument.
