“Evaluating the Use of Sampling and Cause and Effect in Climate Change Arguments” Introduction to Climate Change Arguments: Analyzing the Use of Sampling and Cause and Effect Reasoning

Identify an
argument from any source—an article on a news website, an advertisement, or an
argument from a book you read.  The
argument or attempt at persuasion must have some reference to sampling and or
scientific claims of cause and effect.
For example, it could be a news article about global warming that
presents summary of data to support a claim of cause and effect.  Another example could be an advertisement
that presents sampling to support the claim that you s9od buy a product.
In the first part  of
the paper, summarize the argument in the essay or advertisement.  Write it in standard form with numbered
premises.  Make sure you use quotes from
the source and you properly footnote them in MLA style.  Secondly, use what we have learned in class
to evaluate the reasoning.  Particularly
liik for issues of bias sampling and invalid cause and effect reasoning.  However you evaluate the argument you need to
present your reasons for your evaluation.
Are the premises true to the best of your knowledge?  Are the premises relevant to the issue?  Can we conclude that the argument is sound?
Finally, present your view on the issue or
product.  Give your reasons for your view
