“Mastering the Art of Oral Presentations: A Structured Approach”

Oral Presentation Structure:  3 parts
1.     The Opening: (2 minutes)
a.     Make this a quick attention getter.  Provide context.  This can be a question, an anecdote, an image, a quote, an object, etc.
b.     Briefly explain why this topic is relevant.
c.     What is the main message without any of the details?
2.     The Body: (5 minutes)
a.     Identify 3 or 4 statements that support the main message.  These are your main points.
b.     For each of your main points, you must have 2-4 statements that support the main point.  These are your subpoints.
c.     Sequence your main points in a logical way and explain this sequence to your audience with transitions between points and between subpoints.
3.     The Conclusion:  Review, Conclude, Close (2-3 minutes)
a.     The first and last sentences of an oral presentation are important because they shape first and last impressions.  Link back to your attention getter in The Opening of this presentation.
b.     Review the main points in the body.
c.     Conclude by restating the main message in more detail than in the opening.
d.     Close in a way that listeners know you are now done.
e.     For example: “Thank you for your attention, I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.”
(as the subject states, I’m fine with either one of the topics i’ve chosen. thank you
