DISCUSSION POST 1
“Peer review is the independent assessment of your research paper by experts in your field. The purpose of peer review is to evaluate the paper’s quality and suitability for publication.” (Understanding Peer Review – Author Services, 2024) The importance of using peer-reviewed as a source of research is very simple, in relationship to the research paper that is being worked on, when using peer-reviewed as a source is data that has been examined and checked by other scholars. When using peer-reviewed it guarantees the researcher that the information has met the highest standard in the academic community and is very important because it lets the researcher know that the information has been authorized to use by others. The audience needs to know that some of the information of the researcher was gathered from peer-reviewed articles, giving the audience a level of peace of mind of the components of the research paper.
One of the most important aspects in the field of behavioral science is to ensure the audience the authenticity and quality of the research information. “PsycINFO provides access to peer-reviewed research and is considered the most comprehensive resource for the field of psychology.” (Staines, 2019) This is why is essential to use peer-reviewed articles during the process of a research paper. When using this method on a research paper ensures the readers the information is consistent, creative, and informative making sure to meet the standards of the scientific community. Guaranteeing that someone’s information is not false or stolen from the source, all of this information should be annotated in the reference part of the research, giving credit to the source.
This is important when writing the final paper, it allows others to see the work of other researchers letting others be encouraged to publish their work and assess their information. This allows others to understand the accuracy of the subject once the research has been developed. Depending on the research this procedure installs discipline during the development of the research when using dependable sources making it a very important role throughout the process of the paper when using peer-reviewed sources supporting the credibility of the final research paper.

DISCUSSION POST 2
A peer reviewed source is essentially in any scholarly article that is published. To be peer-reviewed means it has undergone the critical steps (evaluation) by experts in the like fields before it can be published.
“Scientific findings and discoveries can have far-reaching implications for individuals and society. This is one reason why they undergo a process of quality control known as ‘peer review’ before they are published. Peer review involves subjecting the author’s scholarly work and research to the scrutiny of other experts in the same field to check its validity and evaluate its suitability for publication. A peer review helps the publisher decide whether a work should be accepted” Dr. Jasmin Schmitz states in his article Peer Review: Why it is important? (n.d.).
Typically, the process involves a “desk review” which is the initial deciding factor if it continues or is rejected (Schmitz, n.d.). The following steps, if accepted then travels the channels of experts and checked to ensure the research topic has been formulated and scientific method is approached correctly.
The biggest reason peer-review is important in social and behavioral sciences is to ensure the standards of research is maintained at the highest quality. Another reason is to ensure the framework is reliable and unbiased for true data.
I plan on using peer reviewed research into my paper for statistical analysis on how bully affects the mental health of students. Having this accurate data will show how schools need to make it a priority to check mental health of students and ensure they are not getting bullied in their schools.

DISCUSSION POST 1
Understanding and having a deep knowledge about the types of research can help the researchers to better plan the project by utilizing the most appropriate methodologies and techniques.” (Types of Research, n.d.) When conducting research many different types of research can be processed, but there are basic categories that research can be classified as quantitative research and qualitative research. Quantitative research is the type of research that can be measured, the main factor of the research is the investigation of numerical data, while qualitative research is the type of research that cannot be measured it looks for findings in difficult areas observing the data that cannot be counted.
“The data analysis section will cause students the most grief. This section is often extremely technical, involving statistical analyses.” (Staines, 2019) When research requires acquiring or evaluating information from statistics or mathematics, quantitative research is the most successful method to process all the data that has been gathered from the studies. When analyzing the information from statistics allows the researcher to have a better perspective of the result of the research. When comparing the results of the analysis, either adding all the results or coming out with the best result of all the obtained data, is why quantitative research is the preferred method to conduct a study when comparing differences is required.
“The analysis is conducted using data that is expressed as words, pictures, or objects.” (Staines, 2019) When the researcher is looking for an exact finding of the study that might impact the techniques or the behavior of the audience who are observing the gathered data from the research influencing the behavior or it could affect the opinion, and the way others think of the results from the information explaining the final results of the research is when the researcher should choose to use qualitative research which allows the researcher to give a more explanatory result to the audience reading the research.
The researcher intends to use qualitative information that lets to achieve the goal of having a more profound understanding of the research, rather than concentrating on the magnitude of problem-solving that requires an amount as the result of the research. Both types of research can allow the audience to understand the outcome of the result during the research affecting the behavior of the audience.

DISCUSSION POST 2
Empirical research studies and literature reviews are different research studies. Empirical research involves collecting new data through observation or experimentation, while literature reviews involve analyzing existing research on a particular topic. Empirical research is based on observed and measured phenomena and derives knowledge from experience rather than theory or belief (Library guides: Empirical research in the Social Sciences and Education: What is empirical research and how to read it ). It involves the collection of data and the analysis of that data to answer a specific research question. This type of research is often used in social and behavioral sciences, where experiments can be conducted to test hypotheses. Empirical research can provide robust, quantitative data and can be used to establish cause-and-effect relationships.
Literature reviews involve the analysis of existing research. They discuss and analyze published information in a particular subject area. It has an organizational pattern that combines a summary with synthesis. A summary provides a recap of all the important information from the source, but a synthesis reorganizes that information. Literature reviews can provide new interpretations of old material and can combine new interpretations with old ones (Research guides: Library services for undergraduate research: What is a literature review?). Literature reviews are particularly useful in fields where a lot of research has already been conducted, as they can help to identify trends, gaps, or inconsistencies in the existing literature.
Using empirical research or a literature review often depends on the research question and the state of existing knowledge. If the research question requires new data to be answered, or if there is little existing research on the topic, then empirical research may be the best choice. However, if the research question involves understanding the current state of knowledge on a topic, or if there is a large body of existing research, then a literature review may be more appropriate. Investigators decide which type of research to pursue based on their research question, the resources they have available, and the state of existing knowledge on their topic.

DISCUSSION POST 1
American Psychological Association (APA) format is the most recognized method used in social sciences disciplines (Staines, 2019). APA style originated in 1929 when a group of social scientists convened and established a simple set of guidelines that would codify many components of scientific writing to increase the ease of reading comprehension (American Psychological Association 2019). The guidelines are published in a book by the association and are now in its seventh edition. The primary purpose of the APA style is to facilitate scientific communication by promoting clarity of expression and by standardizing the organization and content of research articles and book chapters (Chiang et al., 2015).
APA style is needed to provide uniformity and consistency in papers. In the fields of psychology and sociology, the APA style has a significant influence. It provides a consistent method for writing and organizing academic papers and assignments. This includes the structure of the paper, the citation of sources, and the presentation of statistical data.
The APA style is important because it ensures consistency across papers and journals, making it easier for readers to follow the paper’s logic and narrative. It also enhances the writer’s credibility and aids in avoiding plagiarism by requiring citation of sources.  APA style makes writing research easier since it provides a basic layout including what information to present, the order in which to show it, and the style to present it in. This makes it easier to read about research when it’s presented familiarly (Chiang et al., 2015).

DISCUSSION POST 2
When anthropologists, psychologists, and business managers got together in 1929, they tried to come up with a short set of rules, or style standards, that would simplify the various elements of scientific writing and make it easier for readers to understand what they were reading. This is how APA style has come to be. The elements of academic writing that are most relevant to writing in the domains of nursing, communications, business, psychology, engineering, and allied fields are covered by APA Style. It focuses on preparing student articles for a course assignment and draft manuscripts that are submitted to journals for publication. Ideas flow naturally, references are properly cited, and documents are regularly and predictably ordered when style is used correctly. Individuals are described in a way that upholds their dignity and sense of worth. To enable readers to assess findings and prospective replication of the studies by other researchers, the authors account for ethical compliance and disclose pertinent aspects of their study process. Data is presented in tables and figures in an eye-catching, dependable way. Consistency in writing is encouraged by APA Style, and the APA Style founders took this into consideration while creating its requirements. Over time, consistency in style aids writers in understanding and correctly implementing the rules.

DISCUSSION POST 1
How does a researcher develop a research question for a research study? What might guide a researcher in identifying a specific topic for study?
“One of the best and most effective methods of locating the information you need is spending some time designing a search prior to actually searching for the information.” (Staines, 2019, pg. 5) When trying to select a topic for a research paper knowing the audience or what the audience is looking to get out of your research paper is what is important, being specific with the information provided, focusing on how are passing down the information, the amount of information do you want to if or condensed the information, how do you want to sound on the research for example, if you want to sound sophisticated or simple in the research. All of these are factors that are going to make the research paper successful in providing the information for the audience.
Selecting the subject can be intriguing especially if you don’t know the audience, for example, if I need to do a research paper for work since I’m in the military a piece of new equipment I would have everyone’s attention. “Develop a search strategy and search for information using resources that may actually have the type of information that you are looking for” (Staines, 2019, pg. 5) For informative reasons for this class the best I can formulate is to pick a topic to do a research paper, how to do a research paper is what sounds good to the audience of this class. In my opinion, it is essential to be prepared at the end of the research to give some space for the audience to have open questions, sometimes you can prepare yourself by asking “Why, how, what.” These are some questions you can prepare yourself to answer as the research paper is being written.

DISCUSSION POST 2
A researcher develops a research question for a research study by finding a relevant topic that the researcher is passionate about or has a strong interest in (Staines, 2019). For example, suppose a researcher has a personal interest or experience in bullying. In that case, they might have the motivation to study the rising trend of bullying or the psychological effects it might have. Having a personal interest in the topic helps motivate the researcher and will help them write compellingly about it. If a researcher chooses a topic they aren’t interested in, they will likely not be enthused or stimulated and therefore shouldn’t expect the readers to be either (Staines, 2019).
After a researcher selects a topic that interests them then they can develop an appropriate and workable research question instead of just a statement. One of the things to consider is which point of view and discipline will the research question be examined. This helps narrow the focus of the research question. For example, the topic of bullying could take a psychological emphasis and the question could be “How does bullying in adolescence impact the development of social skills and self-esteem?” The question should be sufficiently focused but not microscopically defined. The researcher should keep in mind that the research question should be reviewed by at least five published articles along with other sources such as books or e-books (Staines, 2019). The researcher should also keep in mind that they should have data and expert opinions to back up their research.
