The first step is to identify a policy issue. The issue you identify must be a real and current issue in juvenile justice. Any issue you identify must have alternatives (i.e., solutions). A word of caution- it is really easy to develop a paper that falls more in the realm of a historical analysis and research papers. Policy Research Paper provides a comprehensive analysis of a recent (within the last 15 years) juvenile justice policy. The paper is not to exceed 12 pages, nor be less than 10 pages, and must address the following:
Why and how did the policy come about? In other words, what problem is the policy attempting to solve?
Has the problem been identified correctly?
Who were the principal players? Was the policy driven by the academic community, politicians, practitioners, or a combination of some or all of these?
What were the intended and unintended consequences of this policy?
How should results be monitored?
Is there evidence that the policy has been successful in alleviating the problem?
What other types of policies, programs, or corrective actions could have been used instead? How likely are these alternatives to be successful (what is your definition of “success”?).
